Part 2
What is the Dealer2Trade auction platform?
It's a bit like eBay, but for cars. Sellers list vehicles, buyers search, browse and bid.
What are the qualifying criteria to use the Dealer2Trade auction platform?
We're strictly trade-only, so you must be a VAT registered used car dealer to use the system. Depending on your circumstances, we might ask to see documentation or further information to verify your status and validate your account. You can always email us and tell us why you should be able to open an account if you're not VAT registered though, and if you've got a decent reason, why not?
Why buy and sell through Dealer2Trade?
Loads of reasons:
- You get paid faster as the turnaround is quicker than your traditional on-site auction houses. 90% of vehicles sold in 2021 were paid for and collected within 72 hours of the auction ending.
- You get better control over your cashflow because you set the auction length. We recommend setting your auctions to 2 days.
- You save time. It takes less than four minutes to list a car for sale and you're away. No waiting 5 days after listing for the car to be collected for auction, no waiting another week to get paid.
- You avoid the hassle of getting to an auction and the pressure of bidding in the room.
- You can withdraw a car from an auction that's still running with no penalty, as long as the reserve hasn't already been met.
- Our sellers' and buyers' fees are super low, probably less than it'd cost you to transport a vehicle to a traditional auction!
What costs can you expect to pay?
Usually, you'd get a free month's trial and then pay an annual membership fee of £99 plus VAT. But times are tough so we're waiving our membership fee until things settle down!
Aside from that, it's just £45 plus VAT for each car you buy, and only £40 plus VAT to sell (with no listing fees at all).
Do I need indemnity before using the Dealer2Trade auction platform?
Yes, as the authorised user, when using the services of the platform you must indemnify and keep Dealer2Trade Auction fully indemnified against all claims, costs, proceedings, demands, losses, damages, expenses or liability whatsoever arising out of or in connection with any breach of the Usage Agreement. Please refer to the T&Cs when signing up (11.10) for more detail.
What are the payment terms for services used on the platform?
Payment is required 30 days from the date of invoice for the membership fee; and 7 days from the date of invoice for any transaction fees around purchase or sale of a vehicle, unless notified otherwise. Payments must be made by BACs or credit/debit card.
How do I load a vehicle to sell?
What is a "provisional" bid?
If a sale doesn't reach its reserve price but bids are made, the seller will get the chance to accept the highest bid (a "provisional" bid). If the seller accepts, the buyer who made the provisional bid then gets 24 hours to agree to the sale.
What are bidding increments?
Every "maximum" bid you place must be £100 more than the previous bid. That being said, our system will place a lower proxy bid for you. In other words, it'll bid the smallest increment possible within your maximum bid in order to beat the previous bidder's highest bid). You can raise your maximum bid by increments of just £50 within the last thirty minutes of the auction too.
Why can entering a maximum bid take the auction straight to "reserve met"?
As soon as your maximum bid is equal to or more than the reserve price on any vehicle, our system will place a proxy bid for you at the reserve price (as any proxy bid lower than the reserve wouldn't result in an automatic sale). A "reserve met" message will then appear as the auction becomes valid and bidding can continue.
Can you talk to a dealer about a live auction?
Give us a call on 01280 313138 to tell us what you want to know and we'll facilitate a dialogue for you.
Can a seller withdraw a car from auction?
Yes, so long as the reserve price hasn't yet been met. Dealer2Trade reserves the right to withdraw a car themselves at any point in the case of unforeseen circumstances, even after a reserve price has been met.
What happens once a vehicle is purchased or sold on Dealer2Trade?
The seller makes contact with the successful bidder once the auction is complete to arrange payment directly. Once payment is complete, it's up to the buyer to contact the seller and arrange a date and time for collection. Transactions need to be completed within 72 hours of the end of the auction (unless the seller agrees to wait longer).
Can you still make an offer if an auction has finished?
If the vehicle met the reserve during the auction then you won't be able to make an offer. BUT if the vehicle is displaying as "provisional" that's because it didn't meet its reserve price. If that's the case then you can give us a call on 01280 313138 and we'll make an enquiry for you (or let you know if the vehicle's due to go up for sale again).
What happens if a car is misdescribed?
If you can't come to an arrangement with the seller then as per the terms and conditions you can refuse the vehicle at point of collection. Unfortunately, you are not covered by our terms and conditions if you accept the vehicle.
